- Users will soon be able to upload five-minute video clips to TikTok, thanks to a new feature.
- Others have been given the option to upload videos of up to 10 minutes in length.
- TikTok Stories and TikTok Shopping will be added to the platform in the near future.
It was reported on Thursday that TikTok, a mobile short-form video-sharing app, is experimenting with the time limit on its uploads, with the possibility of extending the video duration to five minutes or longer.
As of December 2020, the platform’s maximum video length has been increased from one minute to three minutes.
Matt Navarra, a social media consultant , has indicated on Twitter that the video length limit may be increased once more in the future.
Navarra’s tweet indicates that some users have already begun to receive the option to upload five-minute video clips on TikTok, as evidenced by his tweet.
The app will send a notification to some specific users with the following text: “Upload videos from your device that are up to 5 minutes in length. Before you experiment with the feature on your app or on tiktok.com, make sure you’re running the most recent version .”
Additionally, some users have been given the option to upload videos with a time limit of 10 minutes, in addition to the 5-minute option. This suggests that the application is still weighing the best time to roll out the new feature to all users, according to the notifications.
As previously mentioned, more changes to the application are expected soon, with the addition of TikTok Stories — which will follow the same format as Snapchat and Instagram, and which was rumoured earlier this month — and the announcement of TikTok Shopping earlier this week.
With the help of a partnership with Shopify, TikTok Shopping will provide business users on the app with the option to include a shopping tab in their profiles. Users will be able to feature products and provide links to online stores where they can be purchased through the tab.
